Mantras

Before I start I would like to bow to the feet of Lord Ganesha. Without his blessings and Sree Mukha and the knowledge that he bestows with his grace and a gaze like blessing nothing is possible for me.

When I was in studying and started my career, I asked my Uncle who is not only my initial mentor and Guru on many aesthetics and traditional values he would impart his knowledge, during that time I asked him to give me a mantra which will help me. He gave the following mantra.

I started to chant this Mantra may be 108 times daily or 21 times, don't remember it, but after few days there used to be lot of uneasy and a dejection in life. Not interesting in any of that was happening in my life. So I called up my Uncle and told him about it and in reply he wrote to me the following letter it is exactly as he has written to me.

Dear Anand,
I want to tell you something about Mantras and Japas. Mantra is a group of letters or words, which protects the person who understands the meaning of that mantra. Japa is nothing but thinking about the meaning of the mantra repeatedly. So, when we enchant a sentence or a stanza, which we call mantra, or japa, will not be mantra or japa till we understand it's meaning.

But repetition of mantraaksharas, many a time enlightens us, about its meaning. WE cannot expect the effect of the Japa of any mantra till such enlightenment occurs. Regarding the above mantra.
This "mantra" related to Shiva, who is the God of all types of wealth. He attracts Gold, and destroys poverty, at the same time he saves his devotees from all types of evils. When we compare the worldly comforts to the pleasure or bliss produced by enchanting the mantra, worldly comforts do not seem to be attractive. That is why we seem to lack interest in our daily affairs. But as we continue the "Japa", we will realize that the worldly comforts are also different forms of Shiva himself. Then we regain interest in them. So continue the Japa without worrying about its effect

Yours Affectionately
Uncle
